The standard manipulator configuration is that of a mast and boom device. The vertical mast rotates on its base plate and this motion can be manual or motorized. A saddle assembly that carries a boom travels up and down the mast. This motion is usually powered at constant speed but can be provided with variable speed when needed. Finally, the boom travels along the horizontal plane from full extension from center to full retraction to center of the mast.
